Tiger MS girls sweep Salamonie
The Bluffton Middle School girls’ basketball teams notched their second straight victories Tuesday over the Salamonie Rebels. The 7th-grade Tigers won 33-27 and the 8th-grade Tigers won 40-16.
Shannon Penrod scored 11 points for the 7th-grade Tigers. Cheyenne Penrod added 7, Caroline Mettler 4, Whitney Green 3, Ashley Smith 2, Branda Bywater 2, Caitlin Krider 2 and Katie Geimer 2.
Erin McKinley and Emma Thompson each netted 13 points to lead the 8th-grade Tigers. Lauren Stauffer chipped in with 10. Janean Steffen added 2 and Hannah Vandentop 1.

Bluffton MS boys rout Salamonie
The Bluffton Middle School boys’ basketball teams rolled over the Salamonie Rebels on Tuesday. The 7th-grade Tigers won 45-23 and the 8th-graders won 52-33.
Garrett Walburn had 6 points for the 7th-grade Tigers. Desmond Carter 2, Grant Prible 10, Trey Collins 4, Collin Barker 2, Dwayne Eskridge 3, Aaron Sturgeon 14 and Jacob Ehle 4.
Kobie Lucabaugh scored 2 points for the 8th-grade Tigers. Kevin Moser had 19, Ethan Kitt 4, Noah Antrim 6, Dane Hoffman 2, Javon Morgan 14, Kohl Buskirk 7 and Jay Brickley 2.

8th-grade Crusader girls edge East Jay
The Norwell Middle School 8th-grade girls basketball team opened its season Monday with a 23-20 win over East Jay.
Liara Isnogle had 10 points, four steals and three rebounds for the Crusaders. Erika Thornton added six points and five rebounds. Paige Markley, Monica Frauhiger and Sarah Bauermeister each had two points. Hanna Smith had four rebounds and two steals and Markley also had two steals.

Bluffton swim meet cancelled
The Bluffton Tigersharks’ girls’ swim meet slated for Tuesday night against Huntington North at Bluffton Middle School was cancelled due to an elevation in the water temperature. Due to regulations, the water temperature must be between 78 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit for competition. However, the temperature was 86 degrees because of a malfunction in the pool’s water heater.
