Klay Fiechter receives IFCA honor
Norwell Knights’ senior running back Klay Fiechter has been named to the Indiana Football Coaches Association All-State team.
The all-time Norwell rusher was named to the Top 50, which is the highest honor a player can receive from the IFCA.
Fiechter is the second Norwell gridder to receive the award, joining Ryan Gerbers who earned the honor in 1999.

Huskies going to bowl game
DeKALB, Ill. — For the first time in school history, the Northern Illinois football team will play in a bowl game for the second straight season.
On Sunday, the Huskies accepted an invitation to play in the International Bowl in Toronto.
NIU (7-5, 5-3 in the Mid-American Conference) will take on the University of South Florida (7-5, 3-4 Big East) on Saturday, Jan. 2, at noon EST in the Rogers Centre. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
Tickets ($40) may be purchased through the “Bowl Central” page on the Northern Illinois website, or by calling the NIU Athletics Ticket Office at 815-752-6800.
Northern Illinois will be playing in its fifth bowl game. A year ago, the Huskies played in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La., where they fell to Louisiana Tech, 17-10, to drop its bowl record to 2-2.

Meghan Prible sparks Cougars
FORT WAYNE — Meghan Prible helped key an early second-half run for Saint Francis and the Cougars went on to beat Marian 73-50 Saturday in women’s college basketball.
Prible, a 2009 Southern Wells graduate, scored eight of her 10 points in the second half. She was 3 for 7 from the field, including 1 of 2 from three-point range. She also was 3 for 4 at the free-throw line and grabbed six rebounds.
The Cougars improved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the Mid-Central Conference. Marian fell to 4-5 and 2-1.

Osborne contributes for Huntington
Former Bluffton High School graduated Haleigh Osborne scored four points and grabbed two rebounds on Saturday in Huntington University’s 82-62 women’s basketball victory over Grace.
Huntington University upped its record to 7-3 and 1-1 in the Mid-Central Conference.

Norwell baseball clinic slated
A Norwell Holiday Baseball Clinic will be held for boys in grades 5-8 on Dec. 28-30 in the auxiliary gym. Cost is $30 for each camper and a $5 discount for more than one child in a family. A camp T-shirt is included. The session on Dec. 28 is from 2:30-4:15 p.m., while the sessions on Dec. 29-30 are from 9-11:45 a.m. Entry deadline is Dec. 22. Sign up for boys’ basketball league
Registration is open for boys in grades 5-8 for the Wells County Boys’ Basketball League from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Bluffton City Gym, 128 E. Market St. Cost is $25 for one child, $20 for second child and $15 for the third or more. Season starts Dec. 19. Bluffton revises parking, fan entrance
Beginning Saturday, Dec. 5, with the Southern Wells vs. Bluffton girls’ basketball game, all spectators at the Bluffton Tiger Den will be required to park in the large parking lot on the northeast side.
All spectators should enter at Door 5 for girls’ basketball, wrestling, freshman boys’ basketball and volleyball. Door 2 on the southwest side of the high school will remain locked during these events. However, ticket entrances at Door 2 and Door 5 will remain available for all boys’ varsity basketball games.
