Correction to ACAC football story
The name of Bluffton senior Tyler Holmes was misprinted in Wednesday’s sports article about the Allen County Athletic Conference all-conference football team. The News-Banner apologizes for the error and regrets any inconvenience it may have caused.

Norwell freshmen down Vikings
Austin Dettmer scored 19 points and Josh VanMeter 16 to lead the Norwell Knights’ boys’ freshman basketball team to a 55-48 victory over the Huntington North Vikings Wednesday night at the Castle.
Huntington North was led by Paul Ehler with 16 and Trevor Osborn with 10.

Allee Donaghy receives HCAC honor
Allee Donaghy was one of 18 Anderson University student athletes named to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference fall all-academic team.
Donaghy is a defensive specialist for the Ravens’ women’s volleyball team. In 112 games, she had 253 digs, 15 service aces, six assists and four kills.
To qualify for academic honors, a student athlete must be at least a sophomore and have a 3.5 grade point average. Donaghy is a sophomore and majoring in athletic training. She was a three-year varsity setter for Norwell and played for Fort Wayne and Norwell volleyball clubs.

Meghan Prible leads Cougars
University of Saint Francis freshman guard Meghan Prible came off the bench Wednesday night to lead the Cougars to an 84-48 victory over Spring Arbor in women’s basketball at Fort Wayne.
Prible scored 15 points, making 6 of 9 field goal shots, including 3 of 5 from three-point range.
The Cougars improved to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-Central Conference. Spring Arbor fell to 1-8 and 0-2.

Haley Killingbeck leads Trine in loss
Southern Wells 2009 graduate Haley Killingbeck scored nine points Tuesday night for the Trine Thunder in a 68-50 loss to Indiana Tech in women’s college basketball at Fort Wayne. She was 3 for 3 from behind the three-point arc, ripped down three rebounds, and had three blocked shots and two steals.

Southern Wells graduate Brandon Killingbeck played for Trine in the Thunder’s 34-17 loss to Wittenberg in an NCAA Div. III football playoff game last Saturday in Springfield, Ohio. Killingbeck, a junior, played linebacker and is majoring in sports management and business. Trine (10-2) claimed its second MIAA title.

Bluffton freshmen record two wins
The Bluffton Tigers recently won two boys’ freshman basketball games, edging Canterbury 33-32 on Monday and blasting Blackhawk Christian 47-23 on Tuesday night.
Matthew Sturgeon scored 16 points and Chandler Prible 11 to lead the Tigers over Blackhawk Christian. Seth Thompson added eight, Jackson Lambert six, Dalton Cunningham four and Ian Betz two.
Thompson and Lambert each netted eight points against Canterbury. Sturgeon added seven, Prible four, Brock Pace four and Betz two.

Crusaders sweep DeKalb boys
The Norwell Crusaders swept a pair of boys’ basketball games from DeKalb on Tuesday night. The 7th-grade Crusaders won 39-26 and the 8th-graders rolled to a 50-16 victory.
Piercen Harnish scored 11 points to lead the 7th-grade Crusaders. Nathan Allison added nine, Andrew Oakes six, Brandon Burch four, Adam Nahrwald three, Reggie Hayes two, Joseph Friend two and Ashton McCune two.
David Vogel tallied 16 points for the 8th-grade Crusaders. Jonah Patten netted nine, Brent Bales four, Drew Shively four, Jordan Dickey four, Graham Stoppenhagen four, Colyn Torson three, Cal Clouser two, Brett Wilson two and Justin Reed two.

8th-grade Crusader girls defeated
The Norwell 8th-grade girls’ basketball team was defeated 48-37 on Tuesday by DeKalb at Waterloo.
Olivia Geiger led the Norwell Crusaders with 15 points. Kelsey Beer added 10, Laken Chaney six, Brittany Barger four and Alicia Coleman two.

Bluffton revises parking, fan entrance
Beginning Saturday, Dec. 5, with the Southern Wells vs. Bluffton girls’ basketball game, all spectators at the Bluffton Tiger Den will be required to park in the large parking lot on the northeast side.
All spectators should enter at Door 5 for girls’ basketball, wrestling, freshman boys’ basketball and volleyball. Door 2 on the southwest side of the high school will remain locked during these events. However, ticket entrances at Door 2 and Door 5 will remain available for all boys’ varsity basketball games.

Sign up for boys’ basketball league
Registration is open for boys in grades 5-8 for the Wells County Boys’ Basketball League from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Bluffton City Gym, 128 E. Market St. Cost is $25 for one child, $20 for second child and $15 for the third or more. Season starts Dec. 19.
