Norwell 8th in boys’ golf poll
The Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association boys’ top 20 poll has been updated as follows (first-place votes in parentheses):

Place in martial arts tournament
Members of Mountain Storm Martial Arts of Bluffton recently competed at the Indiana State Open Championships in Portland.
First-place finishers were Lindsay Aker, Arianna Inskeep, Jyler Morphew, Jordan Beechler and Elias Inskeep.
Second-place finishers were Jaelyn Joy Biberstein, Amanda Thompson, Dalton Goulet, Damon Ho, Lindsay Aker, Matthew Thompson and Zachary Biberstein.
Third-place finishers were Matthew Thompson and Elias Inskeep. Haley Craig placed fourth. Fifth-place finishers were Amanda Thompson and Haley Craig.

Summer tennis league set to begin
A summer tennis league will be starting June 1 at Norwell, with play Monday and Wednesday evenings through July 25 starting at 6:30 p.m.
The league is for middle school and high school students (beginner or advanced). Cost is $30, which includes an end-of-league tournament.
An informational meeting will be held Thursday, May 28 at 7 p.m. at the tennis courts. For additional information contact Joel Fillman at 260-273-7217 or e-mail at jafillman@verizon.net.

Bluffton awards program slated
The Bluffton High School spring athletic awards program will be held Tuesday, May 26, in the cafetorium at 7 p.m. All athletes that participated in a spring sport are expected to be present and dressed in a professional manner. Outstanding male and female senior athletes will be recognized.

Order Bluffton letter jackets
Bluffton letter jackets may be ordered Wednesday, May 27, at 7 a.m. A sales representative will be available for fittings. A down payment of $50 must be made.

Sign up for Tigers’ basketball camp
Registrations are being taken for the Bluffton Tigers Boys’ Basketball Camp set for June 1-5 at the Tiger Den. Boys in grades 5-9 in 2009-2010 may attend. Cost is $25. Grades 5-7 meet from 10-11:30 a.m. and grades 8-9 meet from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Camp brochures, including registration form, are available at the high school office.

Norwell volleyball camp coming up
The Norwell volleyball program will be conducting the Little Lady K’s Camp on June 1-5 for girls in grades 4-8. Grades 4-6 will meet from 9-10:30 a.m., followed by grades 7-8 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Cost is $50 for grades 4-6 and $75 for grades 7-8. Huntington Univ. slates hoops camp
The Forester Basketball Camp for boys and girls entering grades K-9 will be held at the Huntington University gymnasium July 6-10. Cost is $85 for K-3 or $90 for 4-9. Pizza Hut subdues Standard Plastics
Matthew Vitatoe had three singles and scored four runs to help lead Pizza Hut to a 10-5 victory over Standard Plastics in Bluffton Junior League baseball Friday night. Vitatoe also was the winning pitcher. Reggie Garrett also added three singles, while Dylan Heckman drilled a triple and single.
Grant Prible had three hits for Standard Plastics. Devon Shannon doubled and singled and Alex Morales singled twice. Matthew Scott tripled and Michael Scott doubled. Prible also was the losing pitcher.

State Farm rolls to victory
State Farm banged out 19 hits in routing Standard Plastics 21-0 in a Bluffton Junior League baseball game on Wednesday. Trey Collins had four hits and drove in five runs to lead State Farm. Collins also struck out eight to get the win. Jayar Kobryn hit a home run and Noah Antrim added three hits. Ethan Mygrant and Caitlyn Herndon doubled for Standard Plastics. Mygrant was the losing pitcher.

Bohemian Bean perks
The Bohemian Bean scored 11 runs in the third inning to put away National Oil 21-11 in Bluffton Farm League baseball action on Wednesday. Guy Smuts doubled and singled and scored two runs for the Bean, while also being the winning pitcher. Sean Stinson added three runs and smacked a double and single. Blaine Williams scored four runs. Matt Yonker doubled and singled for National Oil. Jared Cross added two singles, while losing pitcher Dominik Jojola scored two runs. The score was tied 3-3 until the second when the Bean scored seven runs.

T-Ball scores reported
The following Bluffton T-Ball League scores have been reported: Wells Fargo 16, Saf-T-Lite 10; Goodwin’s Memorial Chapel 11, American Legion 9.
Reminder: Full names needed
It’s that time of year and Little League and youth league baseball reports are coming into the News-Banner. This is a reminder to all coaches of the winning team that it is their responsibility to report the results of the games. Results must include complete names (first and last) for both teams. Otherwise, the report will not be published.

BSU alumni outing planned
The Adams-Wells Ball State Alumni Association’s golf and dinner outing is slated for Tuesday, June 23, at the Golf Club of the Limberlost, formerly the Wabash Valley Golf Club, near Geneva. Cost is $50, including green fees, cart, beverages on the course, prizes and dinner. The scramble’s shotgun start is 1 p.m. Dinner begins at 5:15 p.m. Cost for dinner only is $8. Registration deadline is Thursday, June 18.
