Norwell girls win in overtime
Kylee Byerly scored a goal in extra time to lead the Norwell girls’ soccer team to a 2-1 victory over the New Haven Bulldogs Wednesday night at Norwell.
The Northeast Hoosier Conference match ended in a 1-1 tie after regulation time.
New Haven’s Jessica Cox scored in the second half to force the match into extra time. Norwell’s Lauren Johnson had given the Knights (1-4-2) the lead in the first half on assist by Caitlin Ailor.
Norwell is now 1-2-0 in conference action. Johnson had six shots on goal for Norwell and Ailor seven. Cox had seven shots for New Haven. Norwell goalkeeper Haley Heller had 14 saves. New Haven goalkeeper Karisa Jacquay had nine saves.
Knights’ spikers breeze past FW South
The Norwell volleyball team defeated Fort Wayne South Side 3-0 Wednesday night at the Castle with games of 25-14, 25-10, 25-13.
Senior Lauren Klansek led the Knights’ hitting with 12 kills. She also had two blocks and four aces.
Olivia Geiger also had eight kills for the Knights (10-4). Jessica Louison had five and Amanda McAfee four. Geiger and Louison each had one block. Louison and McAfee each had two aces. McAfee also had 16 digs. Laken Chaney had eight digs and Elizabeth Ault six. Chaney had 26 assists. Klansek and Emily Gresley each had one ace.
Bishop Dwenger trips Knights
3-2 in boys’ tennis
The Bishop Dwenger Saints handed the Norwell Knights’ tennis team its first loss of the season Wednesday at Fort Wayne.
The Saints swept the three singles matches, while the Knights won the two doubles matches. The Knights are now 9-1.
Bishop Dwenger also won the junior varsity match 3-2. The Saints won both doubles matches and gained the victory when Norwell forfeited the No. 3 singles match. The Knights’ record slipped to 8-2.

SW 7th-graders win football games
The Southern Wells Raiders 7th-grade football team defeated Crestview 30-0 on Tuesday night. The 8th-grade team lost 22-0.
Bryce Bonewit, Seth Trissel and Nick Roberts scored touchdowns for the Raiders. Hunter Schreiber, Austin Gearhart and Trissel each scored two-point conversions.
Last Tuesday, the 7th-graders defeated South Adams 18-0. Scoring runs for the Raiders were by Trissel and Bonewit. The 8th-grade team won 25-0 with scoring by Jacob Roush, Brad Woodward and Jacob Weldy.
8th-grade Crusaders beat New Haven
The Norwell 8th-grade football team defeated New Haven 12-0 Wednesday night.
Piercen Harnish scored on touchdown runs of 80 and six yards to spark the Crusaders (2-0).
Jay/ar Kobryn and Adam Nahrwold also had some nice runs. Quarterback Reggie Hayes had pass completions to Jeremy Davis and Harnish, while Chandler Shady caught a pass by Jace Geiger.
Nathan Allison and Davis were playmakers on defense. Allison intercepted a pass, knocked down several other passes and had some key tackles. Davis had three sacks. Hayes and Kobryn also intercepted passes. Zach Wesley, Andrew Oakes, Anthony Richard, Nahrwold and Harnish also added tackles.
Golf outing for Norwell Baseball Club
The Norwell Baseball Club is taking registrations for the Turf’s Up golf scramble on Sept. 25 at Timber Ridge Golf Club in Bluffton. Limited space is available and entry fee is $65. Entry deadline is Sept. 17. Tailgate party before Bluffton game
Bluffton football fans are invited to a tailgate party before Friday’s game against Woodlan at Fred F. Park Field. The party will be located in the parking lot near the practice field, starting at 5:45 p.m. Meat and table service will be provided. Fans should bring a dish to share.
