Get “INShape” for free at a state park or reservoir, Sept. 12

Indiana DNR Release:

In support of Gov. Mitch Daniels’ “INShape” Indiana statewide health initiative, Indiana state parks and reservoirs are waiving entrance fees, and offering organized walks and health events for INShape Indiana participants, Sept. 12.

Hoosiers registered as INShape Indiana participants at INShape.IN.gov should receive a coupon via e-mail by Friday, Sept. 11, that entitles them to free admission to the state park or reservoir of their choice on the INShape Indiana DNR Day. The coupon must be presented at the entrance gate for free admission.

Participants in the walks and other activities will be entered in a drawing for a $50 camping gift card or a copy of the new state park history documentary “Indiana State Parks: Treasures in Your Own Backyard.”

Events, times and locations vary, but all sites offer the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise at the same time. For a complete list of walk locations visit www.interpretiveservices.IN.gov and www.dnr.IN.gov/healthy.

The governor launched INShape Indiana in 2005, challenging Hoosiers to make healthy choices. The free, Web-based program provides statewide information on physical fitness activities, nutrition and smoking cessation. INShape Indiana not only serves as a clearing house but provides quarterly activities such as 10 in 10 and Ready, Set, Walk!

“Once again, and we are proud to continue our support of Gov. Daniels’ efforts to sustain a healthy population of Hoosiers by offering free admittance to the state parks and reservoirs of Indiana,” said Robert E. Carter Jr., DNR director.
