Parlor City Trot registration is open
The 41st Parlor City Trot, which is part of
the Race Around Wells Series, is set for 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, in
Bluffton. Along with the 13.1-mile half
marathon, the Trot event will include a 10-kilometer run.
Runners may register online at runsignup.com.
Cost of the events on race day are $30 for
the Trot, and $20 for the 10-kilometer race.
There are discounts for early registration.
The starting line for the races will be on Main Street at the intersection with Walnut Street near the Wells County Courthouse.

Coaches set for 2015 Girls All-Stars, Junior All-Stars
Mark Holt to guide seniors, Rod Parker to direct juniors in games in June
The coaching staffs for the IndyStar.com Indiana Girls' All-Stars and the IndyStar.com Indiana girls Junior All-Stars have been set.
Mark Holt, coach at Barr-Reeve, will lead the 2015 Indiana girls All-Stars as the seniors face Kentucky in the annual series that dates to 1940 for boys and 1976 for girls. He will be assisted by Jane Schott of West Lafayette and Carrie Shappell of Leo.
Rod Parker of Homestead is the head coach for the 2015 girls Junior All-Stars. He will be assisted by Doug Laker of Greenfield-Central and Kevin Moore of East Central.
The Indiana All-Star seniors will play four games and the Junior All-Stars will play two games in June.
The All-Star seniors will face the Junior All-Stars on June 8 and June 10 at sites to be determined. The All-Star seniors also will play the Kentucky All-Stars on June 12 in Lexington, Ky., and June 13 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Holt is a 1979 graduate of Shoals High School and a 1983 graduate of Ball State. He began his coaching career as a boys' basketball assistant for 20 years at Barr-Reeve before taking over the BR girls' program. In 12 seasons, he has guided the Vikings to a 196-77 record, including a 28-1 mark and Class A state runner-up finish in 2015.
Schott is a Tipton High School graduate who went on to play at Purdue University. She has compiled a 96-79 record in eight seasons as coach at West Lafayette, including a 13-9 mark this past season. Schott has a 164-167 ledger in 15 total seasons as a varsity coach. She previously was coach for seven seasons at Harrison (West Lafayette).
As a player, Schott (then Jane Calhoun) was named an Indiana All-Star in 1987 after totaling more than 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds for Tipton's Lady Devils. At Purdue, she was a five-year player because of injury, a full-time starter in 1991-92 and a three-time Big Ten All-Academic selection.
Shappell has compiled a 143-82 record in 10 seasons at Leo, her alma mater. Her squad went 15-8 in 2014-15. Shappell, then Carrie Lightfoot, was a standout player for the Lions in the mid-1990s while playing for coach Mike Hey. She went on to a strong basketball career at IUPUI and was named the school's top female student (top overall female student, not top female student-athlete) in 2000.
Parker will direct the 2015 Junior All-Star girls after guiding Homestead to a 26-3 record this season, including a Class 4A state runner-up finish.
A 1989 graduate of Fort Wayne Snider, Parker played basketball and baseball in high school and baseball in college at IPFW. He has compiled a 216-107 record in 14 seasons as the Spartans' coach with three sectional titles, one regional crown and one semistate crown during his tenure. Parker previously was a boys' basketball assistant for six seasons at Homestead prior to moving to the girls' program.
Laker recently completed his seventh season at Greenfield-Central, where he has led the Cougars to an 89-61 mark. That includes a 17-7 finish in 2014-15.
Laker is a 1987 graduate of Rushville High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from IUPUI in 1991 and a master's degree from Ball State in 2003. He began coaching in the boys' basketball program in Rushville in 1991 and assisted there through 2007. Laker came to Greenfield initially as an assistant athletic director, then became the GC varsity girls' basketball coach beginning in the fall of 2008.
Moore has been the girls' head coach at East Central for six seasons, directing the Trojans to an 88-41 mark, including a 21-4 record and Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference championship this season. Moore is a 1998 graduate of Franklin County High School and received his bachelor's degree in 2004 from Ball State.
Moore began his coaching career as a boys' basketball assistant at Franklin County. He moved to East Central as a girls' basketball assistant for three years before being promoted to girls' varsity coach for the Trojans in the fall of 2009.

18 players selected to face Indiana Seniors in June exhibition games
Eighteen players have been selected for the IndyStar.com Indiana girls Junior All-Stars for 2015.
Players in the core group include Lindsey Corsaro of Roncalli, Ae'Rianna Harris of Lawrence North, Tyasha Harris of Heritage Christian, Sydney Shelton of Mt. Vernon (Fortville), Kristen Spolyar of Lebanon and Jackie Young of Princeton.
The North group players are Camryn Buhr of Penn, Cameron Onken of Lafayette Central Catholic, Jayla Scaife of Muncie Central, Aliyah Walker of Brownsburg and Katelyn O'Reilly and Alexis Shannon of Noblesville.
The South group players are Kara Gerka of Fishers, Holly Hoopingarner of Greenwood, Lauren McBryar of Mooresville, Tyana Robinson of Pike, Emily Sullivan of Evansville Memorial and Megan Walton of Hamilton Southeastern.
The coaches for the Junior All-Stars have not yet been announced.
The Junior All-Stars will play two games against the IndyStar.com Indiana All-Star senior girls. Those games tentatively are set for June 8 and June 10 at sites to be announced later.
The players listed as core group players will play in both games. The players listed as North group players will join the core group for one game, and the players listed as South group players will join the core group for the other game. It is not yet know which date will include the North and South players.
The Indiana senior All-Stars will play the Kentucky senior All-Stars on June 12 in Lexington and on June 13 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The Junior All-Stars will not play Kentucky juniors this year.
The Junior All-Star team is determined by the 22-member Indiana Basketball Coaches Association all-state panel in conjunction with its selection of the IBCA/Subway Underclass All-State Team. The selection process allows all IBCA-member head coaches the opportunity to recommend top players from schools on the traditional regional structure of the non-class tournament format. Representatives from each of those 16 regional areas, plus six representatives from the three IHSAA districts (two each from District 1, District 2 and District 3), then meet to review those recommendations, vote and finalize the selections.

Ball State’s Franko House Named MAC West Player of the Week
Sophomore forward helped Cardinals to 2-0 start to MAC play
MUNCIE, Ind. – Sophomore forward Franko House of the Ball State men’s basketball team has been selected as the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week.
House averaged 13.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game last week in helping Ball State knock off a pair of 11-win teams to open conference play.
The Elkhart, Ind., product has been at his best in the biggest moments lately. He scored eight of his 14 points in the final five minutes of regulation and overtime in Wednesday’s win at Eastern Michigan, all while playing with four fouls. He played a role in the Cardinals’ final seven points in overtime, scoring four of them and assisting on Sean Sellers’ game-winning 3-pointer.
Three days later, House went for 13 points and five rebounds as Ball State defeated a Central Michigan team that entered the game at No. 88 in the NCAA RPI.
House was efficient for the week, knocking down 13 of 19 shots from the floor (68.4 percent) to help the Cardinals to their first 2-0 MAC start since the 2011-12 season. Bowling Green is the only other undefeated team in MAC play.
House is the second Ball State player to earn MAC West Player of the Week honors this season, joining Sean Sellers who received the award in the season’s opening week.
Ball State returns to action Wednesday at Western Michigan with a 7 p.m. tipoff in Kalamazoo, Mich. The game will be televised by the Ball State Sports Network and will also air on ESPN3.

Through Wednesday, fans will be able to purchase general admission tickets to any upcoming men’s and women’s basketball game at the special price of just $5, limit four (4). Both teams will be back in action Wednesday – the men play at Western Michigan while the women host Kent State – and if either team wins, those fans will receive a Ball State ball cap courtesy of Pepsi. Again, this offer expires Wednesday at 9 p.m.
Fans can take advantage of this offer by calling 888-BSU-TICKET or visiting the Worthen Arena ticket office during regular business hours or before/during the women’s game Wednesday versus Kent State with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
